Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
